Emra’a, HEC Paris host annual networking event
Emra’a, ExxonMobil Qatar’s women’s network, and HEC Paris, a leading provider of executive education and member of Qatar Foundation, organised a professional women’s networking event and workshop in Doha last week. More than 200 female employees from Qatar Petroleum, Qatargas, Qatar Petrochemical Company (Qapco) and ExxonMobil Qatar attended the event, titled ‘Women Helping Women’.
The event, which aimed to highlight women’s leadership and discuss the development of future female leaders, was facilitated by Professor Randall P White and Sherena Mistri-Yiannouka. It offered a networking platform to address relevant issues faced by women in leadership positions, according to a press statement.
Professor White and Mistri-Yiannouka focused the conversation on women’s career development and career advancement, and how to become an effective leader and what it takes to get there. They also invited four women in senior leadership positions to take part in a panel and speak about one experience that was a turning point in their careers.
The speakers were Reham Thawabi, AGM and head of Branch Network, Commercial Bank; Munera al-Dosari, chief strategy officer, Ooredoo Qatar; Rasha al-Sulaiti, entrepreneur; and Dr Suhur Saeed, senior environmental scientist, ExxonMobil Research Qatar.
Professor White said, “The workshop was an informative and inspiring two-way dialogue. We presented case studies of successful women in leadership and participants shared their own leadership experiences and perspectives. As a group, we were able to develop practical solutions and action plans addressing common barriers to growth.”
The event also helped participants take a closer look at the factors that determine success or derailment for women in the business world, and highlighted some of the obstacles they face in the workplace as they make their way up the corporate ladder.
Professor White shared various tools and skills to help them discover their strengths and clear management hurdles in their organisations. Emra’a committee member Fatima al-Emadi welcomed the participants, saying, “At Emra’a, we realise that women continue to encounter challenges when it comes to advancing in the workplace – and in many facets of society. This is why we organise activities that we believe will help our colleagues in Qatar’s energy industry so that they can get to where they want to be in their careers.”
Ghada al-Abdulla, leadership specialist at the Learning and Development Department of Qatargas, attended the workshop and said: “I thoroughly enjoyed Emra’a’s Women Helping Women event – like all of the network’s events, the workshop was highly interactive and relevant to my work.”
